into the "Server Address" boxOnly Minecraft's Featured Servers are accessible by default on consoles due to how these platforms are designed.
It is possible to circumvent this however, however this is a more technically involved process.
GeyserMC have shared a method to use "BedrockConnect", which is a DNS server which redirects the "Featured Servers" to a server picker, where you can enter a custom server address to connect to. The instructions for this are available here.
It's worth noting that using a public BedrockConnect instance would have your device sending DNS queries to another parties server. To protect your own privacy, we'd recommend hosting your own BedrockConnect instance (see here).
Alternatively there is another project which you can run on a laptop or computer to trick Xbox or PlayStation into seeing the server as a local multiplayer game, see Phantom. This does not work on Nintendo Switch however.
When you join RGUCraft for the first time, you will be greeted with the following message after attempting to join the game:
When this happens, you should visit the web address listed in the message when you have been disconnected, and fill in your RGU email address. Once you have done this, you will receive an email with a secondary link (or code) to confirm your email address.
After following these steps, you will now be able to connect to the server.
If you want to talk in the Discord server, you should use the /discord
command. It will give you an invitation link to join the server, and a command to run to prove that you are an RGU student.
If you encounter any issues, please reach out to us via Discord for assistance.
We are planning on adding a method for members to invite a single non-RGU student friend to the server, this is not yet ready however.
Note: This feature is currently only available to Java Edition players. If there is enough interest from Bedrock players we can investigate a way to use Discord to work around this limitation.
To use voice chat in Minecraft, you need to install the Simple Voice Chat mod by henkelmax (Modrinth, CurseForge). It is available for all current modloaders, so you can add it to you existing vanilla pack (if you have one).
It can be configured to either be push-to-talk or open mic when performing first-time setup.
For an even more surreal experience, you can also include the Sound Physics Remastered mod (also by henkelmax) which adds sound echo and absorption. (Modrinth, CurseForge)
